This page is dedicated to General Stores located in the Town of Veteran.  Photos will be included where they could be found.  Personal memories will also be included as they are submitted. If you know of a store(s) that may have been missed or you can contribute photos of them or the buildings where they used to be - please contact the Historians @veteranny@yahoo.com.  We welcome your participation! 

 

Stores / Markets in the Town of Veteran: 

These are some of the stores which were / are located on the East side of the town:

Booths - Sullivanville, sold gasoline & groceries

Conkrights - was possibly located on Route 13 prior to Oliver's

Cranmers - Sullivanville - after Hubbards - sold mainly produce

Forsythes - Route 13, sold gasoline & groceries

Hubbards - Sullivanville, now on Route 13 - sold produce in early years, sells mainly plants now

Roland C. "Red" Lovells - Sullivanville - sold produce, rented Horses & buggies

Moores - after Torpys - corner of Terry Hill & Route 13 - sold gasoline & groceries

Olivers - Route 13 - sold gasoline & groceries

The Trading Post - Route 13 - after Olivers.  Sold mainly groceries

Torpys - corner of Terry Hill & Route 13.  Sold gasoline & groceries

Wilkins - Sullivanville - sold gasoline, groceries, feed, coal, etc.  Had a library of books for kids to borrow upstairs.  Stored milk from area farmers in the first floor in milk cans.

 

These are some of the stores which were / are located on the West side of the town:

Blend's - Pine Valley 

Canada's - located in Pine Valley.  Sold gas & groceries.  May have started Pine Valley Mobile Home Park.

Dandy Mini Mart

Davies

Dollar General - Pine Valley - general store

Don Zimmers - corner of Route 14 & Johnson Hollow - sold all kinds of groceries, animals & animal feed

Hammonds - after L. E. Page - general store, trolly stop

Hartmans - grocery store in Pine Valley

Journeys End - crafts, foods, general merchandise

L.E. Page - general store, trolly stop, undertaking rooms upstairs

McWhorters - general store

Millport Mercantile - tourist type merchandise, general store

Nivers

Pine Valley Farms - produce, plants - started as a Christmas Tree Farm by Phillip Liberatore in 1953. 

Became Pine Valley Farms in 1995 - started with 1 Greehouse now has 5.  They are open 9 - 7 each day.

Poor Lews Grocery

Seven Eleven - occupied what is now the Veteran Town Hall

Sidney "Sid" Jaynes

Sterlings - had a gas station, sold groceries.
